When it was suggested several years ago that I needed a personal computer for my meeting and event planning business, I made a selection with great trepidation. My husband assembled the machine and switched it on. Reading computer jargon was frustrating and confusing. I know myself, I learn by observation and performance. What I needed was a mentor and tutor. Enter Jeanne Harris.
Jeanne became my guide to the myriad of possibilities on my machine. She suggested various software and components, then explained their usage, how it benefited my business, and how to apply that usage in simple, straightforward and understandable language - and - with unending patience.
I think of Jeanne as a lifeguard sitting on that towering high chair waiting for someone to yell, “ HELP! Jeanne, I need you.” Her response: "Don't panic, it is fixable," or "Can it wait until tomorrow - if not, let me walk you through the corrective process and I'll come by later and check your work." She is my mentor, my teacher and, at times, my savior.
I was assigned to coordinate a national conference two years ago. I didn't have the time or know-how to automate the registration process with its many details, including, workshop selection, speaker syllabus information, name tags with credentials, food preferences, credit card data, hotel reservations, etc.. Jeanne completed these tasks with ease and helped to make me, the planner, successful in the eyes of those who hired me.
